Little Great Moments 3/25/09

Not a whole lot to say in this post, but I just wanted to catch a memory.

I'm sitting in the living room working on my blog @ 9:30 in the morning, basically waiting for Luke to wake up. When I start hearing funny noises coming from his room. As I listen I realize he is awake and playing by himself in his bed. It was a sweet funny moment that I was able to enjoy as I relaxed and let life roll along at it's own pace.

This is what I would call one of those little great mommy moments, when it is just so great to be alive and have the life I have been blessed with.

F.H.E 3/23/09

We don't have Family Home Evening nearly enough. (Yes, I know I just told a deep dark secret!) But when we do it is usually an enjoyable event. Tonight, Madisyn prepared the whole thing, including a snack of No Bake Cookies. Yum yum! The topic was Prayer and she did a nice job of having an object lesson, song, scripture, story and activity.
The activity was a game where the blindfolded person had to listen closely to try and hear the others walk by them. The objective was to point out that it is important to listen for the answers of our prayers.
Everyone had a good time taking a turn.

Thanks Madisyn, for an enjoyable evening together as a family.

Science Olympiad 3/6/09

Jake was one of only 2 freshmen on the Science Olympiad team this year. I guess it is a state event and was held in Yerrington of all places. He walked away with two medals. A gold in the Ecology Event and a bronze in the Disease Detectives Event. The Fernley team was 4th over all. Jake said it was kind of funny, they looked like a bunch of hicks compared to many of the other teams, but they were able to hold there own up against state competitors.I'm not sure what is up with these photos, maybe I should have gotten up off the couch to get a good shot. He looks so funny, or wacky, as Madisyn just said.

Roger and I were not surprised by his success at all. He is extremely bright and last year, in 8th grade, took the ACT and scored a 33 in science. We were amazed, a 33 is just about the top score, we think he missed one question in the whole section. Sadly, they don't give you much info about your score.

Snow Flurries 3/09

The boys have had a chance to start enjoying their Christmas presents. It was fun to watch them the other day chasing around the yard. Even in the snow flurries. Sam was teasing Luke by getting on his tractor, but Luke showed him by jumping on the 4 wheeler and chasing him around. It was really funny to watch."Now, how does this work?"
"I'm going to get you!"

"Come get me!"

Blinky 3/09

Roger called me while I was in AZ very concerned about Luke and the way he was blinking very rapidly and regularly. I had seen him do something similar before but it had never lasted very long so I was not overly concerned about it.

Until,l I got home that is. All day Monday he just kept blinking and blinking. I thought it might be a tick or hopefully just an allergy to Grandpa and Grandma's dog. As the day went on the blinking just kept going and I finally decided to call the Dr. As soon as the doctor saw him he said he had a tick.

Yup, I was right. I learned a couple of interesting things, one is that it can be caused by strep throat, they tested but he didn't have it and also that blinking is one of the most common ticks. They can be short term, under a year, or lifetime ticks. And the hardest part is that there is nothing that can be done about it. As I thought, it can be brought o by stress. i.e. Mom leaving for 10 days. So the plan of action is to just ignore the behavior and not give him attention so that it does not become a habit on top of an uncontrollable muscle tick.
